The KITEVES Project solution foresees to equip electric-powered vessels.

The KSU (Kite Steering Unit) is the unit that allows automatic pilot of a power kite or an array of power kites over a predefined flight path. The power kite is manouvered by unrolling and recovering two lines on two winches controlled by engines.

A preliminary energy balance concerns the assessment of the usage of the electrical energy produced on board. According to the vessel’s typology and size and to the electric consumption distribution between electric traction and on board electric services, it has to be considered whether to use the electric energy produced aboard by the Kite Steering Unit (KSU) for traction or for services (or for both).
